Victoria Memorial Hall in collaboration with Kolkata Centre for Creativity presents ‘Purnaya’ – a dance performance by the acclaimed Manipuri danseuse Dr Bimbavati Devi, as part of the exhibition ‘The Hidden Moon: An Exhibition of Artworks by Kartick Chandra Pyne’ at VMH. The performance is on 26 March 2025; 4:00 PM at Durbar Hall, Victoria Memorial Hall.

10 March 2025: Women’s Day Concert

On 10 March 2025, Victoria Memorial Hall and Alliance Française du Bengale, in association with the Consulate General of France in Calcutta presented the Women’s Day Concert, as part of the 3rd Edition of the Western Classical Music Concerts as a tribute to International Women’s Day.

The evening featured three exceptional musicians – Inés García-Casillas (Clarinet), Jessica Rachel Bouaziz (Viola), and Wen-Ying Lan (Piano), who enchanted the Western Quadrangle of VMH with their soulful melodies, creating an unforgettable musical experience.

11 Mar – 16 Mar 2025: City of Hope: Gandhi, King, and the 1968 Poor People’s Campaign

Victoria Memorial Hall, in collaboration with the U.S. Consulate General and the American Center Kolkata, presents ‘City of Hope: Gandhi, King, and the 1968 Poor People’s Campaign’ at the Great Indian Reformers Gallery from 11 March to 16 March 2025.

This poster exhibition explores Mahatma Gandhi’s profound influence on the civil rights movement in the United States and India’s impact on Martin Luther King Jr.’s visionary pursuit of economic justice and human rights worldwide.

26 February 2025; An awareness generation talk on TB

On 26 February 2025, Victoria Memorial Hall organised an awareness talk on TB for VMH
officials, staff members, and the CISF unit. The session was conducted by Dr. Bhaswati
Pandit, Associate Professor, Department of Biotechnology, National Institute of Biomedical
Genomics, Kalyani. She shared valuable insights on TB symptoms, prevention, and
treatment, emphasizing the importance of early detection and healthcare awareness.

24 Feb – 30 March 2025; An Exhibition of Artworks by Kartick Chandra Pyne

Victoria Memorial Hall in collaboration with Kolkata Centre for Creativity presents a solo exhibition titled “The Hidden Moon” at the Durbar hall of VMH from 25 February 2025 to 30 March 2025. This exhibition features paintings of acclaimed artist Kartick Chandra Pyne from different periods of his artistic journey, primarily highlighting works from his later years.

17 February 2025; Western Classical Music Concert

Victoria Memorial Hall and Alliance Française du Bengale, in association with the Consulate General of France in Kolkata, the Embassy of Romania to India, and the Honorary Consulate of Romania in Kolkata, organised Violons Tziganes – A Franco-Romanian Initiative on 17 February 2025. This extraordinary event was part of the 3rd edition of Western Classical Music Concerts.

10 February 2025; Namaste Thailand Festival – Khon: Episode of Hanuman the Mighty Warrior

Victoria Memorial Hall, in collaboration with the Royal Thai Embassy, New Delhi, and the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Kolkata, organised the ‘Namaste Thailand Festival’ on 10 February 2025. The event featured the renowned Khon performance – Episodes of Hanuman the Mighty Warrior, a distinguished masked dance-drama that portrayed the Ramakien, the Thai version of the Ramayana epic.

24 January to 9 February 2025; Calcutta Memorabilia

The ‘Calcutta Memorabilia’ a special exhibition, inaugurated at Victoria Memorial Hall in collaboration with the INTACH Calcutta Chapter in the majestic Durbar Hall presents a carefully curated collection contributed by community members, offering a unique glimpse into Calcutta’s heritage. This initiative highlights the vital role of community partnerships in preserving and sharing local histories, allowing individuals to engage with the past in a meaningful way.

A special section dedicated to women’s histories further enriches the exhibition by providing a platform to showcase narratives that have often been overlooked. By including these underrepresented stories, the exhibition aims to foster a more inclusive understanding of Calcutta’s history, honoring the contributions of women to the city’s development and cultural fabric.

Among the key exhibits are the Dress of magician P.C. Sorcar, rare newspapers dated 15 August 1947, matchbox covers featuring women, and many more fascinating pieces that bring to life Calcutta’s diverse cultural and historical journey.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 24 January to 9 February 2025.
