Durgotsab – life, culture and livelihoods (4 October to 7 October 2024) 

Victoria Memorial Hall in collaboration with Bengal Business Council organised a specially curated experience titled – Durgotsab – Life, Culture and Livelihoods to complement the festive season and celebrate the inscription of our country’s shared heritage – the Durga Puja in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Inaugurated on 4 October 2024 by Smt. Manoshi Roy Choudhury, the Co-Chairperson of the Techno India Group and the Chief Mentor of the Bengal Business Council in the presence of Former Rajya Sabha Member of the Parliament and the reputed journalist – Padma Bhushan Dr Swapan Dasgupta, the President of Bengal Business Council –  Shri Chandrashekhar Ghosh (also the Founder and Former MD of Bandhan Bank) and Honourable Members of the Board of Trustees of Victoria Memorial Hall – Pt Amitava Mukhopadhyay and Smt Anita Chakraborty.

It consisted of a panel exhibition showcasing a brief history of Durga puja. The highlights of the exhibition were the two paintings unveiled as Objects of the Month:

Durga – a vivid watercolour by Bhutnath Pal

  1. Image of Durga – A pen and ink painting by the renowned artist Jamini Roy

Cultural performances, showcasing various forms of dance that form an intrinsic part of Durga puja celebration were organised to engage the visitors including:

  1. Dhaker Lorai (on 4 and 5 October 2024 in Durbar Hall and the South Lawn)
  2. Agomoni Dance Performance (on 4 October 2024 in Durbar Hall)
  3. Dhunichi Naach performance (on 5October 2024 in South Lawn)
  4. Fusion Dance performance of different traditional forms(on 7 October 2024 in South Lawn)
